Pod2g Confirms an Untethered Jailbreak is Ready, Credits Planetbeing and Pimskeks

Pod2g confirmed that the Evad3rs Dev-Team is ready with a jailbreak for iOS 6.1 and credits Planetbeing and Pimskeks for the accomplishment in an interview with iDigitalTimes.

"For your information and this is important to me that everybody knows about it also, this jailbreak will be @planetbeing and @pimskeks. I arrived at the end, gave ideas that pushed them to their maximum, I kinda unblocked the situation, but it would certainly have happened without me helping."

"Now I am helping as much as I can in terms of communication, websites, and also development, but I was not involved the same way as previous, focused on my work and all... Yes, in order @planetbeing, @pimskeks, then me."

According to the hacker, iOS 6.0 is jailbroken as is iOS 6.1 Beta 4. The team is now waiting for iOS 6.1 GM to drop after which they can confirm there is no new security measures introduced. Once everything has been tested successfully the team will release the jailbreak.

"6.0 is jailbroken, 6.1 beta 4 also. Now we are waiting 6.1 to confirm and release."

The new Evad3rs Dev-Team consists of Pod2g, MuscleNerd, Planetbeing, and Pimskeks.

Pod2g, MuscleNerd, Planetbeing, and Pimskeks Form New Evad3rs Dev-Team

Pod2g has announced the formation of new Dev-Team consisting of himself, MuscleNerd, Planetbeing, and Pimskeks.

We (+ @MuscleNerd @planetbeing @pimskeks) are the @evad3rs. We don't take any donations ATM, please don't be fooled at donating to others.

The team has also created a new Twitter account which can be found here. No tweets have been made from the account yet.

Notably, the team submitted a paper entitled, "Swiping through modern security features" to #HITB2013AMS the Hack in the Box security conference taking place in Amsterdam on April 8 - 11, 2013.

It appears that planetbeing and pod2g have found the necessary vulnerabilities to release a public jailbreak and are waiting for iOS 6.1 to drop before doing so.

Planetbeing, MuscleNerd, and P0sixninja Help Pod2g With A5 Untethered Jailbreak

Pod2g has announced that Planetbeing, MuscleNerd, and P0sixninja have joined his effort to release an untethered jailbreak of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

@planetbeing, the legendary hacker behind iPhone Linux and lot of jailbreaks has joined the A5 research! The famous @MuscleNerd, the leader of the iPhone Dev Team, who did a lot of tests for Corona and whom integrated it and made it simple in redsn0w is willing to help also. And last, but not least @p0sixninja, the leader of the Chronic Dev Team, and my partner for years on iPhone security research has started to code and fuzz the Apple sandbox.

We now have a dream team to find a path for a public release of the A5 jailbreak. Cross your fingers.

Yesterday, pod2g posted a FAQ on why the A5 jailbreak had not been released yet. The key reason being that the exploit used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account.

With the help of planetbeing, MuscleNerd, and p0sixninja, pod2g is hoping to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

Pod2g Posts FAQ on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak

Pod2g has posted on his blog to answer some questions about the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak.

How could pod2g have an untethered 4S and dev teams still haven't released tools to achieve this at home ?
The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can't be released publicly. It's the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn't distribute it. So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

Why A4 version of Corona was easier to release ?
Because a tethered jailbreak is a good way to install Corona!

Why don't you do a tethered jailbreak then ?
A tethered jailbreak also relies on an exploitable vulnerability that we still haven't found yet !

Earlier this week, pod2g posted that he had made good progress on the jailbreak for A5 devices and said with some luck we could expect a release in a week.

WARNING: JailbreakMe.com is No Longer Safe to Use for Jailbreaking

iPhone Dev-Team has announced that ConceitedApps has underhandedly sold JailbreakMe.com to an unknown entity and it is no longer safe for use.

It's sad @ConceitedApps sold out http://jailbreakme.com for $$. Luckily we have http://jailbreaks.me and won't ever sell out, said MuscleNerd.

the new owner of jailbreakme.com is absolutely unknown, untrusted, and unsafe..in perfect place for iPhone malware

everything jailbreakme.com used to host will soon be on jailbreaks.me. Don't trust jailbreakme.com anymore (seriously)

it's the worst kind of sellout by @ConceitedApps. They didn't even give us a chance to migrate actual jailbreakers

ConceitedApps has reportedly responded saying "he is lucky i even let them use it for years after they "kicked" me out. i owe them nothing"

We'll let know as soon as the iPhone Dev-Team and Comex manage to get jailbreaks.me up and running.

UPDATE:
Saurik has purchased JailbreakMe.com from its new owner making it safe to use again.

MuscleNerd Announces a Major Update to the RedSn0w Jailbreak Utility

MuscleNerd has announced a major update to RedSn0w that removes the need to select an IPSW and brings the ability to save and submit your SHSH Blobs to Cydia.

Will be pushing out a major redsn0w feature upgrade before my trip to Korea: http://is.gd/PMAdT1 (and look, no IPSW selection button!)

The new version of RedSn0w will be released before Monday. Rather than requiring ipsw selection, RedSn0w will now automatically fetch the important pieces directly from Apple (and caches them so that it never needs to re-fetch them again).

Check out the screenshots below and stay tuned to Limerain for more info and tutorials. You can follow us on @limerain_com, Facebook page , RSS, etc using the links at the very bottom of the page...

For those wondering, the new RedSn0w "won't auto-fetch the betas (since they're not public). You need to provide them (once)."

MuscleNerd's Google+ Account Suspended for Using Pseudonym

MuscleNerd, a highly regarded member of the iPhone Dev-Team, has had his Google+ account suspended for using a pseudonym.

"Google+ suspended me for using the only online name I've *ever* used..."

Google is enforcing a real name policy on their new social site, Google+, which is generating a lot of negativity towards the service.

Jay Freeman, founder of Cydia explains his thoughts on the matter:

-
Personally, I think this state of affairs is ludicrous... Google's attempts to enforce what a name is don't even stand up to the test of multiple cultures, much less the test of an online pseudonymous world. +Gowtham S, even, was forced into the position of specifying a last name, something he does not actually have, and therefore falling back to an initial of his father's first name.

Meanwhile, one of my real-life friends, due to a very complex situation involving her parents' names and legal status in various countries, has a compound last name involving a hyphen, a slash, and a set of parentheses: a name that certainly contains more than enough symbols to drive Google+'s new rules past that brink of "fails when confronted with real world data".

Untethered Jailbreak Discovered for iOS 4.3! Video

I0n1c has just demonstrated an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 using his iPad.

As we mentioned yesterday, i0n1c was listed as one of the many possible sources for a 4.3 untether by MuscleNerd.

I0n1c posted the video below on YouTube saying, shows my alpha untethered jailbroken iPad on iOS 4.3. alpha because not all required kernel patches are in it, yet.

No word yet on when the untether will be available for public release. We'll keep you updated as we learn more.

Take a look...

iPhone Dev-Team Ports Monte Untether Back to iOS 4.1 SHSH Blobs

The iPhone Dev-Team has successfully ported their Monte untether back to the iOS 4.1 kernel.

Previously to untether your jailbreak using Monte you needed to have the iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved which was developer only. Now you will only need your iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs. The team is also working on porting Monte forward to iOS 4.3...

Ported Monte back to 4.1 kernel (SHSH blobs). Next step: porting it forward to 4.3beta!

MuscleNerd notes that the beauty of Monte is it doesn't expose any new exploits :) It makes the entire "wait until next FW" concern moot. Think of Monte as a "green" jailbreak. It recycles (for example) 4.1's exact JB exploit on 4.2.1 :) Waste no exploits.

We'll let you know when RedSn0w is updated with the new capabilities.

The Chronic Dev-Team is also packaging up an untether for iOS 4.2.1 that will not require SHSH Blobs.

Stay tuned for more information.

Microsoft Offers a Geohot a Windows Phone 7 Handset

Microsoft is offering Geohot a free WP7 handset after he suggested their methods of dealing with hackers were a lot better than Sony's.

Linking to an Engadget article on the Windows Phone 7 jailbreak, Geohot writes, "perhaps a more appropriate way to deal with jailbreakers. I'm going out to buy a Windows 7 phone"

It seems Microsoft got wind of his statement and tweeted...

#geohot if you want to build cool stuff on #wp7, send me email and the team will give you a phone - let dev creativity flourish #wp7dev

*thanks iclarified*

Don't forget geohot has stopped all twitter and iPhone blog use and has stated himself, that anyone on twitter with anything to do with geohot is impersonating him!

iPhone Dev-Team Says No Unlock Until After iOS 4.2.5 or iOS 4.3

The iPhone Dev-Team has announced that there will be no unlock released until after iOS 4.2.5 or 4.3 is released.

Official iPhone unlock statement: no unlock will be released until after 4.2.5 or official 4.3 (whichever is last) is out

This is of course disappointing for many but overall in the best interests of the community.

iPhone Dev-Team Announces 'Backup Plan' Untethered Jailbreak is Nearly Ready

The iPhone Dev-Team has announced that their 'backup plan' untethered jailbreak is nearly ready and will not require a restore of your device.

According to MuscleNerd, the backup plan for those w/legit access to 4.2b3 IPSW is about ready...again though, better to wait for comex

Thanks to comex, redsn0w can now handle much bigger files than ramdisk 25MB limit. Useful for "backup plan" 4.2 untether

it shouldn't require a restore...just another redsn0w run. (That's the goal!)

Interestingly, comex has also written some code to retrieve files from a damaged iOS filesystem.

This latest @comex code also allows retrieval of photos+files stuck behind an unfixable filesystem problem...good stuff!

Comex is still working on a more extensible untether; however, those with access to the 4.2b3 IPSW will be happy to know they may soon untether their jailbreak.

iPhone Dev-Team is Working on New Baseband Downgrade Method

The iPhone Dev-Team is working on a baseband downgrade method which will even work for those who updated to the 06.15 modem firmware.

MuscleNerd tweeted the following earlier today...

@Lezanz sorry still collecting data on that. But also working on a bb downgrade (!) method for those with unlockable bb

@idansc yes if the BB downgrade method works, it will work for 06.15 too.

This would be excellent news especially for those who upgraded to 06.15 for unlock and lost their GPS capabilities.
