iPhone 4 Gets Untethered Jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1

Pod2g has announced that he's successfully performed an untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1.

Got an untethered iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. Feel free to update.

Of course, if you want to SIM unlock, don't update using Apple's original FW nor update OTA.

This is great news! We strongly recommend that everyone use iFaith or TinyUmbrella to save their iOS 5.0.1 SHSH Blobs.

You can find instructions on how to do that here: Windows, Mac

Pod2g on the Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5

Pod2g has started a new blog to chronicle his work on the iOS 5 untethered jailbreak he demonstrated earlier today.

Here's the first post:

---
Today I succeed in jailbreaking my iPod 3G. The exploit is user-land, rely on a user ROP payload and a kernel write anywhere exploit.

I can't give much details right now, but here are the next steps :
- upgrade the iPod 3G to iOS 5.0.1
- do the same on iPhone 4 / iOS 5.0.1
- then iPad 1 & iPod 4G

At every step, the exploit code needs certainly to be reworked, but I really don't know right now. Next, I'll return to the research for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. I don't know if I gonna release first for other devices or not. I've to think about it. Feel free to give your opinion.
---

We'll keep you up to date with news on pod2g's progress.

TinyUmbrella for Windows Gets Updated With Recovery Fix

TinyUmbrella for Windows has been updated with the ability to kick devices out of recovery mode and with iOS 4.3b1 support.

TinyUmbrella has been updated to finally support windows for the recovery fix! I've personally tested in XP and Windows 7. Please let me know if you have (non-DFU) issues. If you need help getting into DFU mode, use google. Check the change log for more info. As an aside, I've also added 4.3b1 support to this version. Enjoy!

Tiny Umbrella Gets Updated With iOS 4.3 GM Support

TinyUmbrella, a useful tool for upgrading your SHSH Blobs, has been updated with iOS 4.3 GM support and System Proxy support on Loader

This update provides iOS 4.3 GM support as well as uses your system proxy settings when launching the TinyUmbrella loader. I've also made a few tweaks to streamline the currently saved shshs. I'm still working on the windows recovery kick out fix for 4.2.1 - I should have that finished this week (hopefully). Enjoy

Semaphore Releases TinyUmbrella Update, Teases TinyPwn

Semaphore has released an update to TinyUmbrella which brings the file size way down and teased his upcoming utility TinyPwn.

I just pushed a smaller, trimmed-down version of TinyUmbrella. This change had to take precedence over the other things I was working on for TinyUmbrella because the bandwidth usage was insane. Now that this is out of the way, I can go back to the 4.2.1 recovery kick out issue. Have a great weekend folks!

On Twitter, semaphore also says he's written 18k out of 55k lines of code for a new utility called TinyPwn.

TinyPwn: Mac/Win/Linux ipsw customization tool. Will allow scriptable modification of the ipsw via a simple custom API. (and more :) )

TinyUmbrella Update Will Bypass SHSH Checks and Restore iDevice Without iTunes

Semaphore is working on an update to TinyUmbrella that will allow users to restore their iDevices without iTunes.

I've been working on a new and improved version of TinyUmbrella that will, among other things, allow you to restore your iDevice without iTunes. With the holiday season and work, this will take me a bit to get working the way I want it. I appreciate your patience and your support. You guys are awesome :) No ETAs yet but I'll post updates here and on twitter.

Semaphore explains that this means bypassing shsh checks will be possible for devices that can be exploited by limera1n (basically all devices available now) and the steaksauce exploit for the mc 2g ipod touch.

You will always be able to install a custom firmware (or stock firmware) following these directions.

1. Enter DFU
2. Run the Exploit
3. Wait for the White Screen
4. Restore the ipsw of your choice.

Some changes to the ipsw will be required. We will post more information as it becomes available.
