AutoCAD Returns to the Mac in October

Autodesk is bringing AutoCAD back to the Mac after a 16 year absence along with a free viewer application for iOS devices, according to a Financial Times report.

Autodesk’s $4,000 AutoCAD has been available only on computers running Microsoft’s Windows since the mid-1990s. However, fans of Apple’s Mac had to install Windows and other software first before they could use AutoCAD. Autodesk’s move comes as Apple is making headway with sales inside corporations with both the Mac and iPad.

Amar Hanspal, Autodesk senior vice-president, said the company will also introduce a free viewer application for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch that will allow users to preview designs and make minor changes.

The full version AutoCAD will ship by the end of October and will be the same price as the Windows version.
