Trim Enabler Enables the Trim Function for Non-Apple SSDs

Trim Enabler 2.0 has been released to let you enable the Trim function and S.M.A.R.T. monitoring system for non-Apple solid state drives.

Trim
With Trim Enabler, you can enable Trim for third party Solid State Drives in Mac OSX. Trim is a command that is executed in the background by the operative system when you delete files, informing the SSD that the blocks are no longer in use and can be deleted. By doing this, the SSD can avoid slowing down future write operations to those blocks.

S.M.A.R.T
Using the S.M.A.R.T monitoring system, Trim Enabler let's you view information that is relevant to the health of the drive. Solid State Drives do not last forever, but by using the S.M.A.R.T tool you can detect issues such as rapidly increasing amount of written data, and increase the lifetime of your SSD.

Bill Gates Talks About His Last Conversation With Steve Jobs [Video]

Bill Gates talks about his philanthropic work and his last conversation with Steve Jobs in this interview with ABC News.

Before Jobs passed, Gates paid a visit to the home of his longtime friend and rival.

"He and I always enjoyed talking. He would throw some things out, you know, some stimulating things. We'd talk about the other companies that have come along. We talked about our families and how lucky we'd both been in terms of the women we married. It was great relaxed conversation."

How did Jobs' death affect him? "Well, it's very strange to have somebody who's so vibrant and made such a huge difference and been ... kind of a constant presence, to have him die," Gates said. "It makes you feel like, 'Wow, we're getting old.' I hope I still have quite a bit of time for the focus I have now, which is the philanthropic work. And there's drugs we're investing in now that won't be out for 15 years -- malaria eradication, I need a couple of decades here to fulfill that opportunity. But, you know, it reminds you that you gotta pick important stuff, because you only have a limited time."

Take a look below...

Check Out This Amazing iDesk Concept [Images]

MacLife has posted concept photos of the Apple iDesk, a multitouch table that functions similar to the Microsoft Surface.

Imagine an entirely adaptable workspace that doesn't just hold your equipment, but enhances and interacts with it. As with Microsoft's Surface technology, the entire desk would be a touch-sensitive display capable of running several simultaneous apps, some of which--such as a calendar, phone, and digital Post-It notes-would replace their physical counterparts entirely. Notifications, to-do lists, video conferencing, Adobe tool palettes, and countless widgets such as calculators and weather reports would all appear right on the surface of your desk, literally putting your entire working world at your fingertips.

Features:
● Sync with any iOS device simply by placing it upon the desk.
● You won't need a mouse when any area of your touch-sensitive desk can be designated as a trackpad.
● Making calls, scheduling appointments, and much more could be done from the surface of a clean, clutter-free workspace.

IHS iSuppli: Windows Phone to Surpass iPhone By 2015

IHS iSuppli is predicting that Windows Phone will surpass Apple's iOS by 2015.

Largely based on Nokia's strong support, Windows Phone is set to regain the No. 2 rank in the smartphone operating system in 2015. Finnish-based Nokia in 2009 lost its second-place worldwide ranking because of rising competition from Google Inc.'s Android and Apple Inc.'s iOS.

According to their analysis, in 2015 Windows Phone will account for 16.7% of smartphones shipped, up from less than 2% in 2011. The boost is predicted largely because of Nokia's support for the operating system.

"One of the hottest new products unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show was the Lumia 900, a Windows Phone-based smartphone sporting a flashy set of features that makes it competitive with the best alternatives offered by the Android camp," said Wayne Lam, senior analyst for wireless communications at IHS. "This hot product represents Nokia's first step to reclaim its market share. Combined with Nokia's efforts to drive the development of the Windows Phone ecosystem, the Lumia 900 and its successors will help Microsoft to reclaim its No. 2 ranking in smartphone operating system market share in 2015."
