Pod2g Confirms Successful Jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1

Pod2g has just confirmed the successful untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1.

OK, tested on an iPad 3,1 running 5.1.1. Jailbroken untethered. :-) No issue.

This is excellent news of course! Yesterday, pod2g posted a video showing an untethered jailbroken iPad 3.

It appears that excellent progress is being made towards release. You can follow Limerain on TwitterFacebook, or RSS to be notified of any updates.

Check out the video below...

iPhone Dev-Team Updates RedSn0w to Enable Downgrade of the iPhone 4S, iPad 2/3

The iPhone Dev-Team has released a new version of RedSn0w that can downgrade the iPhone 4S and iPad 2/3 for those with saved SHSH blobs.

Starting with redsn0w version 0.9.11b1, those with newer devices (iPad2, iPad3, and iPhone4S) can join the downgrade fun too! In a radical departure from previous versions of redsn0w, it now directly supports restoring IPSWs to your device. The first use of this new feature implements a hack that allows A5 downgrades without a bootrom-level exploit.

Some important points:
● The new feature is at Extras->Even More->Restore
● You cannot downgrade without the personalized SHSH blobs for your device at that lower firmware. You need to have fetched those blobs while the signing window was open, using either Cydia's built-in TSS@Home feature, or with TinyUmbrella. The new Restore screen of redsn0w lets you choose either the remote blobs or local ones (for the earlier firmware). If you don't know where TinyUmbrella put your blobs, TinyUmbrella has a button that will show you (copy them out of that folder and feed them to redsn0w).
● he A5 downgrade method actually updates to the latest firmware before downgrading to the earlier one. This process updates your baseband to whatever is newest. DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU RELY ON UNOFFICIAL UNLOCKS of your iPhone4S. Those who used the temporary SAM technique to unlock their iPhones to specific SIMs shouldn't be affected by this baseband update.
● This method can be fixed by Apple with a firmware update. It's a (pleasant) mystery why they haven't fixed it yet, because reverse-engineering of the restore ramdisk indicates they do know about it. It's possibly too niche to bother to fix right now.
● The least-tested devices with this method are the iPad2,3 and iPad3,2 (because we don't have those models). If you do and you feel like experimenting, please let us know how it turns out in the comment section below!
● This update involves a bunch of new redsn0w code. We recommend sticking to the previous version 0.9.10b8b unless you're specifically using this new feature, until all the bugs are worked out! (Note: If redsn0w gets stuck at the "Waiting for device" stage for more than 30 seconds, you've hit a pesky GUI bug... that will be fixed in an upcoming version!)

You can download the latest version of RedSn0w from here. We will be posting a tutorial on how to perform the downgrade shortly!

You can follow Limerain on @limerain_com, Facebook page , or RSS to be notified of any updates.

Update:
There is a bug that makes downgrading the iPhone 4S to iOS 5.0.1 build 9A406 not work. Select SHSH blobs for 9A405 instead.

California Judge Throws Out Proview Lawsuit Against Apple Over iPad Trademark

Judge Mark Pierce in the Superior Court of the State of California in Santa Clara County has thrown out Proview Electronic's lawsuit against Apple over the iPad trademark in China, reports the WSJ.

In its suit, Proview alleged that it was deceived when the Cupertino, Calif., company acquired the iPad trademarks from it in 2009. Proview has made the same claims in a court in China's southern Guangdong province, where the dispute has escalated into one of the highest-profile intellectual property cases for a foreign company in China. That court has urged Apple and Proview to try to reach a settlement.

Apple argued the case should be dismissed since the parties agreed to settle any legal disagreements in Hong Kong. Pierce upheld that argument writing that Proview to prove that the selection of Hong Kong was "unreasonable or unfair".

Although this is clearly a win for Apple, things in China may not be going as well. Recently it was reported that Apple tabled a settlement amount in its battle with Proview over the iPad trademark.

Apple today released iOS 5.1.1. As usual jailbreakers or those wanting to jailbreak in the future should wait before updating to the newly released firmware.

We'll let know what changes have been made once the Dev-Teams have had a chance to examine the firmware. Hopefully, the exploitst used by pod2g are still applicable.

How to Unlock Your iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS Using SAM [5.0, 5.0.1, 5.1]

These are instructions on how to unlock your iPhone using SAM. This method will work with the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G on any jailbreakable firmware including 5.x.

Step One
Jailbreak your iPhone. You can find instructions on how to do that using the Limerain Jailbreak Tutorials Page.

Step Two
Tap to launch Cydia from your SpringBoard.

Step Three
Press to select Manage from the tabs at the bottom of the screen.

Step Four
Press the large Sources button.

Step Five
Press the Edit button at the top right of the screen.

Step Six
Press the Add button that appears at the top left of the screen.

Step Seven
Enter http://repo.bingner.com and press the Add Source button.

Step Eight
Press the large Return to Cydia button.

Step Nine
Press to select Bingner from the list of Sources.

Step Ten
Choose SAM from the list of packages.

Step Eleven
Press the Install button at the top right of the screen.

Step Twelve
Press the Confirm button to begin installation.

Step Thirteen
Once installation has completed press the large Restart SpringBoard button.

Step Fourteen
Insert your new SIM card and tap to select SAMPrefs from your SpringBoard.

Step Fifteen
Tap Utilities

Step Sixteen
Press to select De-Activate iPhone. Your ActivationState under "More Information" should now be "Unactivated". If you don't have De-Activate iPhone you can use De-Activate iPhone (clear push).

Step Seventeen
With SAM enabled, tap Method and choose By Country and Carrier.

Step Eighteen
Tap Country and choose the country of your ORIGINAL SIM.

Step Nineteen
Tap Carrier and choose your ORIGINAL carrier that your iPhone is locked to.

Step Twenty
For some carriers operating more than one Carrier ID you may need to select SIM ID. If you are unable to activate in Step Twenty Four then you have selected the wrong one.

Step Twenty One
Tap More Information and copy the IMSI under SAM Details to the clipboard.

Step Twenty Two
Tap Spoof Real SIM to SAM

Step Twenty Three
Go back to the main SAM screen and paste the IMSI number in your clipboard.

Step Twenty Four
Connect your iPhone to the computer and let iTunes reactivate your phone.

"Double click "Phone Number" parameter at the main device screen and make sure that the ICCID matches that of your SIM card." If not you need to start over from Step Fourteen."

Step Twenty Five
Unplug your iPhone from the computer and close iTunes.

Step Twenty Six
Reopen SAMPrefs from your SpringBoard and disable it using the Enabled switch.

Step Twenty Seven
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes again.

You should get an error saying that your phone cannot be activated. This is normal. Just close iTunes and open it again.

Step Twenty Eight
In a short time you should see signal bars. Congratulations!

Step Twenty Nine
You should now backup your iPhone unlock ticket in case this method is ever blocked. You can find instructions on how to backup the unlock ticket here.

IMPORTANT:
If push notifications stop after this process, you can restore then with the Clear Push utility in SAM, followed by connecting to iTunes.

Your phone will work normally with your SIM card and that SIM card ONLY since we have tricked iTunes to think that ICCID is one of the intended carrier's. The phone can be rebooted and connected to iTunes freely without losing the "unlock", at least for now.

A big thanks to Loktar_Sun and Laforet for their contributions!
