Pod2g Confirms an Untethered Jailbreak is Ready, Credits Planetbeing and Pimskeks

Pod2g confirmed that the Evad3rs Dev-Team is ready with a jailbreak for iOS 6.1 and credits Planetbeing and Pimskeks for the accomplishment in an interview with iDigitalTimes.

"For your information and this is important to me that everybody knows about it also, this jailbreak will be @planetbeing and @pimskeks. I arrived at the end, gave ideas that pushed them to their maximum, I kinda unblocked the situation, but it would certainly have happened without me helping."

"Now I am helping as much as I can in terms of communication, websites, and also development, but I was not involved the same way as previous, focused on my work and all... Yes, in order @planetbeing, @pimskeks, then me."

According to the hacker, iOS 6.0 is jailbroken as is iOS 6.1 Beta 4. The team is now waiting for iOS 6.1 GM to drop after which they can confirm there is no new security measures introduced. Once everything has been tested successfully the team will release the jailbreak.

"6.0 is jailbroken, 6.1 beta 4 also. Now we are waiting 6.1 to confirm and release."

The new Evad3rs Dev-Team consists of Pod2g, MuscleNerd, Planetbeing, and Pimskeks.

It is 'Illegal' to Unlock iPhones Purchased After Saturday

The U.S. Library of Congress has ruled that unlocking iPhones purchased after January 26th, 2013 is no longer legal.

The ruling which we reported on back in October allows for phones you already have to be unlocked. However, any device purchased over 90 days past the effective date of the ruling (October 28th, 2012) can only be unlocked with the carrier's permission.

Here's the details:

Computer programs, in the form of firmware or software, that enable a wireless telephone handset originally acquired from the operator of a wireless telecommunications network or retailer no later than ninety days after the effective date of this exemption to connect to a different wireless telecommunications network, if the operator of the wireless communications network to which the handset is locked has failed to unlock it within a reasonable period of time following a request by the owner of the wireless telephone handset, and when circumvention is initiated by the owner, an individual consumer, who is also the owner of the copy of the computer program in such wireless telephone handset, solely in order to connect to a different wireless telecommunications network, and such access to the network is authorized by the operator of the network.

This exemption is a modification of the proponents’ proposal. It permits the circumvention of computer programs on mobile phones to enable such mobile phones to connect to alternative networks (often referred to as “unlocking”), but with limited applicability. In order to align the exemption to current market realities, it applies only to mobile phones acquired prior to the effective date of the exemption or within 90 days thereafter.

Notably, the Electronic Frontier Foundations questions the authority of this decision. EFF attorney Mitch Stoltz told TechNewsDaily, "Arguably, locking phone users into one carrier is not at all what the DMCA was meant to do. It's up to the courts to decide."

The same decision also made jailbreaking your iPad 'illegal' as well. Remember this only applies to citizens of the U.S.A.

Pod2g, MuscleNerd, Planetbeing, and Pimskeks Form New Evad3rs Dev-Team

Pod2g has announced the formation of new Dev-Team consisting of himself, MuscleNerd, Planetbeing, and Pimskeks.

We (+ @MuscleNerd @planetbeing @pimskeks) are the @evad3rs. We don't take any donations ATM, please don't be fooled at donating to others.

The team has also created a new Twitter account which can be found here. No tweets have been made from the account yet.

Notably, the team submitted a paper entitled, "Swiping through modern security features" to #HITB2013AMS the Hack in the Box security conference taking place in Amsterdam on April 8 - 11, 2013.

It appears that planetbeing and pod2g have found the necessary vulnerabilities to release a public jailbreak and are waiting for iOS 6.1 to drop before doing so.

Planetbeing Declares 'The Future is Looking Bright for Jailbreaking'

Planetbeing has given us hope that a public jailbreak is near with his latest tweet.

Earlier today the hacker tweeted saying, "Tons of progress the last few days. I think the future is looking bright for jailbreaking. :)"

His tweet was followed up by one from fellow hacker pimskeks who said, "yeah @planetbeing looks like we made some #awesomesauce lately :D"

Progress on the public jailbreak appears to have accelerated after planetbeing teamed up with pod2g to find two new vulnerabilities.

Previously, planetbeing said that its unlikely a jailbreak will be released until iOS 6.1 drops; however, that is expected shortly. If the devs now have enough exploits to retain a failbreak that means we could see a jailbreak release in the very near future.

Pod2g and Planetbeing Find Two New Vulnerabilities for iOS 6 Jailbreak

Pod2g and planetbeing have found two new vulnerabilities but are still missing the initial code execution for a public jailbreak release.

Yesterday we reported that pod2g and planetbeing had teamed up to do some work on the iOS 6 jailbreak. Early this morning pod2g revealed that they have found two new vulnerabilities in just a day.

Made some nice progress today with @pod2g. I think I'll try to reward myself with a nap. :)

pod2g: @planetbeing oh yeah! 2 new vulnerabilities in a day, chance was with us. But we still miss that initial code execution for a public jb :/

It's great that progress is being made. Hopefully, the two find that last piece of the puzzle and are able to release their jailbreak to rest of us.

Pod2g May Now Be Working With Planetbeing on the iOS 6 Jailbreak

A recent tweet from planetbeing suggests that he and pod2g may now be working together towards a publicly releasable jailbreak of iOS 6.

Earlier this evening, planetbeing tweeted, "Made some nice progress today with @pod2g. I think I'll try to reward myself with a nap. :)".

When announcing his new company, 2G Lab, Pod2g revealed that he had not been present in the security field for a few months while he concentrated on building his PodDJ app. Now that the app has been released he said that he'll "focus on both subjects."

At the start of the month, planetbeing noted that he was in possession of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.0.2; however, an additional exploit or two was needed before a public release in order to retain a failbreak to help with finding future jailbreaks.

Hopefully, with planetbeing and pod2g teaming up, we will finally see a jailbreak for iOS 6!

Planetbeing Has Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 6.0.2, Explains Delay in Release

Planetbeing reveals on Reddit that he already has an untethered jailbreak of iOS 6.0.2 on his device and explains why it hasn't been released yet.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what all the doom and gloom is about. The fact is, I have an untethered iOS 6.0.2 JB running on my iPhone 5 right now. The reasons it's not released are because 1. releasing it would burn an exploit we want to save for ourselves so we can always get in to look at new firmware and help JB in the future, 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and will likely break a small part of it anyway, there's no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won't break.

Anyway, where there are 4+ bugs (that it took to get this to work), there's gotta be one or two more so while jailbreaking is getting harder, reports of its death are highly exaggerated.

Planetbeing's comments come after Pod2g encouraged Twitter users to demand an open iOS from Apple leading to speculation that the Dev-Team had given up.
