RedSn0w Gets Updated to Easily Boot Devices With Tethered Jailbreak

The iPhone Dev-Team has updated RedSn0w to easily boot devices that are running a tethered jailbreak.

We've updated redsn0w to include "one-click" support for those of you running the tethered 4.2.1 jailbreak. Using command-line arguments, you can now bypass the screens you'd normally see as you use redsn0w to "Just boot tethered for now".

The available command line arguments are:
-j to ask redsn0w to "Just boot now tethered for now"
-i to specify your reference IPSW
-o for old-bootrom iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3GS
-b to specify your own boot logo png

For example, redsn0w for Mac to do a tethered boot of an iPod touch 4G jailbroken at 4.2.1:

open ~/Desktop/redsn0w.app —args -j \ ~/Desktop/iPod4,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

This assumes both redsn0w and the IPSW are on your OS X desktop, so modify as necessary! Included in the zip is an example script file that you can double click on to launch redsn0w like this (the Windows example assumes everything is in C:\). (Mac users: please remember to change the permissions of your custom *.command files to allow execution.)

This should help ease the pain of the tethered jailbreak until @comex comes up with a 4.2.1 untether (or for those of you with legit access to the 4.2b3 IPSW, until the "Jailbreak Monte" untether is out of beta)!

● PLEASE UPGRADE TO iTunes 10.1 FOR BEST RESULTS
● WINDOWS 7 USERS SHOULD RUN redsn0w IN “XP COMPATIBILITY” MODE
● Make sure you’re using a USB 2.0 port

You can download RedSn0w 0.9.6rc7 from here:
Mac
Windows

Hello Sears, this is Apple. We are going to have a little problem here.

Macenstein points to this listing on Sears’ website for iWork at a $39.99 price point. iWork getting a price reduection?! Nope. It’s a project tool set called iWork and it even has an Apple-ish logo. Wikipedia can explain trademark infringement. The funny part is that Sears sells Apple’s iWork productivity suite too.

Buy the iWork Tool Set here, something tells us they are going to be off the shelves soon!

LG announces their Apple TV competitor: ‘Smart TV Upgrader’ (Plex?)

LG just announced their upcoming Apple TV competitor called the ‘Smart TV Upgrader’. The device will be officially unveiled at CES next week and will go on sale during the second quarter of 2011. It will bring a TV web browser (ugh) as well as “premium content” (shows and movies) to your TV including ‘LG apps’. If this works out for LG we are probably not to far away from an App Store for the Apple TV.

“The market for Smart TVs is set to take off this year, and the ST600 offers a perfect entry point,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company. “With the LG Smart TV Upgrader, we’re taking the excitement and convenience of Smart TV and adding in LG’s trademark ease-of-use because we see a significant audience who are interested but not interested enough to buy a whole new TV.”
The real question is: Is this the mythical Plex Box? Plex and LG signed a huge deal to work together earlier this year.

Above is a picture of the device and here are its technical specifications (and more info):

Main CPU: BCM7615 - DDR 384MB, 1GB Flash - LG Add-on Architecture + Web Browser - AC 100-240V, 50/60 Hz - Wi-Fi, Ethernet, DLNA (DMP) - USB: 1EA (USB mouse, external storage) - Input Devices: Finger Touch RCU - Premium Content - LG Apps - Size: 11cm x 11cm.

To compare LG’s offering to the Apple TV it has only 1GB of flash storage in comparison to the Apple TV’s 8GB. This means that LG’s unit is heavily cloud based as 1GB is not enough for a rental system similar to Apple’s. Maybe for TV shows only but LG’s unit will do full on movies too. Just like Apple’s offering, LG’s will be touch based with a peripheral called the “Finger Touch RCU.” Apple has their iOS Remote application for their set-top-box.

Here’s the full press release:

The ST600 also connects users to the growing range of LG Apps, which are custom designed for use on TVs and offer everything from language classes to games. LG makes the viewing experience more compelling still with its superb compatibility, which lets users simply and wirelessly transfer content from their Digital Living Network Alliance(DLNA)-compatible PCs and other compatible devices for viewing on the big screen. LG’s Smart TV Upgrader will be unveiled at CES 2011 in Las Vegas and rolled-out to TV owners in the second quarter of 2011. Apple Forces Alibaba to Remove iPad 2 Case Listings?

Alibaba has received a legitimate takedown request for iPad 2 case listings which may have provided details about the upcoming device, according to the WSJ.

"We do not know whether these products are what they say they are, but we have received a legitimate takedown request and are removing the listings," Alibaba Group spokesman John Spelich said.

Alibaba has declined to comment on the source of the request.

The WSJ contacted Fullchance, one of the companies who had posting a listing on Alibaba. The company claimed that it works with Hon Hai Precision Industry and said Fullchance possesses firsthand material regarding the features of a new iPad, making the design of their case "extremely accurate." The man declined to give his name or to elaborate, saying the matter was "very serious."
