AT&T Activated 1.3 Million More iPhones Than Verizon in Q2

AT&T activated 1.3 million more iPhones than Verizon did in its second quarter, according to the Associated Press.

In its quarterly earnings statement, Verizon revealed that it added 1.26 million wireless subscribers under contract in last quarter, nearly doubling the amount it added a year ago. The company also revealed that it activated 2.3 million iPhones, well below the 3.6 million that AT&T reported for the same period; however, it's worth noting that AT&T also sells the iPhone 3GS for $49.

Verizon says iPhone sales haven't quite been as good as the company expected because they thought a new iPhone model would be released this summer. "We expect it probably sometime in the fall. I think you'll see a significant jump there," McAdam told analysts on a conference call.

Verizon also announced that Chief Operating Officer Lowell McAdam will take over as CEO starting August 1st. He is replacing Ivan Seidenberg as part of succession plan. Seidenberg will remain chairman of the company.

*thanks iclarified*

We personally don't care who activated more, as long as Apple iPhones are gaining market share quarter over quarter.
