Take that Samsung, AAPL shifts 2m iPhones in S. Korea

Samsung may now have sold ten million Galaxy S smartphones, but Apple’s taking it to that firm’s home ground, with news it has sold two million iPhones in South Korea so far.

This has taken just over a year and means two million iPhones were active in the country as of January 20, including over one million iPhone 4′s, according to operator, KT Corp.

South Korea’s smartphone market is estimated at 6.1 million units in 2010 and expected to reach 16.2 million units this year. Should Apple maintain its grasp on effectively one-third of the market there, Apple could conceivably shift as many as five milloin iPhones in the country this year.

The iPhone is spreading across South Korea twice as fast as it did in other countries, local sources claim.
