Apple Lightning Connector Dynamically Assigns Pins for Reversible Use?

Apple's new Lightning connector appears to dynamically assigns pins for reversible use, according to a AppleInsider report.

Peter Bradstock from Double Helix Cables provided the site with some interesting information on the connector. He notes that some features of the connector such as USB power are symmetrical on each side of the plug with pin 1 and pin 8 being connected. Other features such as data connections appear to be asymmetrical.

"Take top pin 2 for example," he wrote in an e-mail to AppleInsider. "It is contiguous, electrically, with bottom pin 2. So, as the plug is inserted into the iPhone, if you have the cable in one way, pin 2 would go into the left side of the jack, flip it the other way and the same pair of pins is going to match up with the other side of the jack (as the electrical contacts in the iPhone's jacks are along the bottom)."

"Dynamic assignment of the pins is the only way for the USB data to be routed, since I've proven that top pin 2 and bottom pin 2 are the pins that go to the Data+ connection of the USB," he said.

The complexity of the connector may be one of the reasons for the higher cost of the cable and adapters. Notably, the dynamic pin assignment could also explain the authentication chip included between the V+ contact of the USB and the power pin of the Lightning plug.

Jailbreakers Warned Not to Update to iOS 6

BigBoss, of the BigBoss Cydia Repository, has warned jailbreakers not to update to iOS 6 until a jailbreak is released.

"iOS 6 is a total dud. I think it's by far the worst major upgrade Apple has ever provided. It's more like a 5.1.2 than a 6.0," said BigBoss.

He notes the major differences moving to iOS6 from iOS 5:
1) Removes youtube
2) Removes google maps.
3) Adds apple maps. No street view, no transit directions. Remember, google has been doing maps a long time. No way apple is doing it as well in a few months.
4) Adds what? Facebook integration, ViP mail, do not disturb? iOS 5 users, you can get "do not disturb" functionality with "ringerx vip" in cydia.

This is definitely not worth an upgrade. And if you are jailbroken on iOS5 definitely do not upgrade to this. You will lose your jailbreak and that's definitely not worth it for this.

We are hopeful that an untethered jailbreak will be found for iOS 6; however, before updating please take into consideration that only a tethered jailbreak is available at the moment.

Video Beautifully Summarizes Expected Features of the New iPhone 5 [Watch]

A video by Sam Beckett summarizes the new features expected for the iPhone 5 which will likely be unveiled by Apple tomorrow.

The phone is drawn as accurately as possible, based on leaked dimensions. Some features such as the new dock connector and larger screen size are almost definitely likely to appear in the new iPhone 5. Other features are included only for concept purposes, such as 'Fingerprint Scan to Unlock'.

Everything has been drawn and animated from scratch; from the icons, to the user interfaces and of course the hardware itself. I used a combination of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Apple's Final Cut Pro X.

Beckett includes a long shot fingerprint scanner and a concept Mission Control but otherwise it's very close to what most are expecting from Apple tomorrow.

Take a look below...

How to Fake a Leaked iPhone 5 Video or Picture

Given the recent news and the available parts this is how to fake a leaked iPhone 5 picture or video. With news from yahoo about the GooPhone and the iphone5 mod kit.

With just a few over the counter parts (so to speak) you can make your very own iPhone 5 look alike. First purchase the GooPhone i5 from here.
Then try to find one of these back doors that will fit the GooPhone i5(I'm petty sure that wouldn't be the hardest part)

Then replace the GooPhone honeycombs back door with this one and there you go! You have yourself a iPhone 5 look alike before anyone and go ahead and post it online as leaked pictures and video of the iPhone 5.

This post is intended for humor purposes only, we are not implying or directing anyone to do this. We just wanted to show how easy it is to fake all of these pictures floating around online of the iPhone 5.

If you take a look at this video and then the following pictures you may notice a pattern. Non of the pictures and or videos of the so called leaked iPhone 5 match each other! One of these could be real or non of them, we won't know until next week and stay tuned we will have a live blog of the iPhone 5 event by Apple.

Chinese Company Used Leaked iPhone 5 Specs to Build Knockoff and Hopes to Sue Apple for Patent Infringement in China

Just the other day, we were hearing about Samsung getting in legal trouble over patent violations with Apple. A federal court decision ruled that Samsung owes Apple more than $1 billion in restitution. Samsung plans to appeal the decision, saying it never attempted to steal anything from Apple's iPhone.
Next week, on September 12, Apple is expected to introduce its highly anticipated iPhone 5, but the company may find itself on the receiving end of a patent-infringement battle. Chinese tech companyGoophone is launching the Goophone I5, which looks suspiciously like an iPhone in the company's video on YouTube.
In recent months, tech blogs all over the world have released leaked photos and videos of what is rumored to be Apple's iPhone 5. The pictures show what appears to be a longer, thinner, but altogether similar version of previous models of the best-selling smartphone in the world. The Goophone I5 will run a version of the Android operating system that mimics the look of Apple's IOS. Goophone claims to have already patented its phone in China and vows to sue for patent infringement should Apple try to release the iPhone 5 in China as well.
One commenter on Goophone's YouTube account wrote, "the clone wants to sue the original...THIS IS THE FUTURE!" Of course, since the new iPhone 5 does not technically exist for the public yet, we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks Yahoo

Tell us what you think about this interesting turn of events. What do you think Apple should do.

Video Claims to Show 'iPhone 5' Booting Up

M.I.C Gadget has posted a video found on Vgooo that supposedly shows an 'iPhone 5' prototype booting up.

--
According to the Chinese tipster, he "accidentally" discovered an iPhone 5 prototype at Foxconn's factory in Jincheng, and when he got his hands-on with it, he could feel the phone is thinner, and it is indeed taller. He quickly took some photos, and a video. Well, is the boot up video real or fake? We are not sure, but it's still interesting to see the device in the video could not be activated, where it says,

"This device is not registered as part of the iPhone Developer Program. If you are a member of the program, please register your device in the @@url@@."

Take a look at the video below...
