2empowerFM Dialogs Unlimited 2.0 Released

Dracoventions has announced the release of 2empowerFM Dialogs Unlimited 2.0 with over 90 new features and fixes since version 1.5. 2empowerFM Dialogs Unlimited is a FileMaker Pro plug-in that makes it easy to display advanced dialogs in FileMaker.

Users may add any number of controls to their dialogs, including stylized text, buttons, fields, checkboxes, and radio buttons. Dialog controls are automatically arranged according to official Apple and Microsoft Human Interface Guidelines, but users also have complete freedom to adjust control size, margins, which controls begin a new line of controls, and so on.


New Features in Version 2.0:

* New controls:
Radio buttons, password fields, and multi-line text input fields of any size.

* Easier dialogs:
Now each control requires only two parameters - the control type and the text it should display.

* Automatic layout:
Each control will automatically align, size, line-break, and position itself in relation to the controls around it using official Apple and Microsoft Human Interface Guidelines.

* Increased flexibility:
There are now 80 optional named parameters to do things like adjust the size, margins, alignment, and position of controls or dialogs - even group controls to move together or become equal in size.

* Easy results:
Get results by referring to the control's text label or save control results directly to 2empowerFM variables.

* Overhauled documentation:
New, 77-page documentation gets users started quickly with step-by-step examples and plenty of screenshots. A second section demonstrates advanced features while an expanded FileMaker database contains even more examples.

* Screen scaling support:
Dialogs Unlimited now provides full support for Windows DPI scaling on modern, high resolution displays. Dialog controls won't cut off text, wrap incorrectly, or display off-center like in every other dialog plug-in tested at high DPI.

Users may create multiple dialogs that float above FileMaker and contain instructions, links to more information, or buttons that launch scripts.

Dialogs may include stylized text with support for custom fonts, bold, italic, color, bullet lists, margins, indents, and so on.

* Pop-up menus:
Menu controls in dialogs can pop up single or multi-level menus.

* Keyboard shortcuts:
Keyboard shortcuts can activate buttons and toggle checkboxes.

* Progress bar:
A progress bar dialog can be used to give users an idea of how much longer a script will take. The progress bar also includes a cancel button the script can use to gracefully stop its processing.

A single-user license is $59 (USD) and new lower prices are available for multiple users, plus a new unlimited-user option. Developer licenses are also available. OpenAppMkt: A Free App Store with No Jailbreak Required

As advocates for open mobile computing continue to press for
the rights of iOS device owners to modify their own equipment
, one project is doing a neat end-run around Apple.
OpenAppMkt
is a project that focuses on web apps, rather than code that requires the App Store - or a jailbreak - to install. In conjunction with new marketplaces like Rock Your Phone and Cydia, OpenAppMkt represents a vibrant new channel outside of Apple's control. And while Cupertino is still playing hardball about letting users install what they want on the iPhone, this is a valuable alternative for people who are afraid of breaking their warranties.



OpenAppMkt
is a for-profit app store that's the brainchild of Bay Area developers Teck Chia, Flora Sun, and Tim Wuu. It's designed to parallel the App Store experience in many particulars, and as
Xconomy's Wade Roush
points out, is a bit of a back-to-the-future for the iPhone. Before the App Store launched in July 2008, the only way of adding functionality to the device was through web apps. Apple actually still
maintains a directory
of over 4,300 different web apps.

With Apple no longer able to assert that jailbreaking is illegal, there's likely to be more mainstream acceptance of app markets like Rock and Cydia. However, the warranty threat may dissuade a lot of people - particularly business users - from jailbreaking. One important role a channel like OpenAppMkt can play is to truly legitimize alternate ways of delivering content to iOS devices, and increase the pressure on Apple to do the right thing and open up.
OpenAppMkt can an be accessed from Mobile Safari, and conceivably most of the titles can be run on any mobile device. So their market could conceivably grow beyond the iPhone and include a range of smartphones.

The Cheapest Place to Buy an Unlocked iPhone 4 [Chart]

iFUN reader Filip Chudzinski has published a chart which shows the price of an unlocked iPhone 4 in 23 countries.

While Hong Kong is the cheapest, Americans are definitely better off heading up to Canada to grab their unlocked iPhone 4 from the Apple Store.

Apple Removes Attenuation Videos From Its Site

Apple has removed videos from its site that show phones from different manufacturers being affected by attenuation when held a certain way.

The company now focuses on reassuring customers that Apple thoroughly tested the iPhone 4 in the lab and in the field.

Every smartphone has a cellular antenna. And nearly every smartphone can lose signal strength if you hold it in a certain way. To make sure our antennas work as well as they possibly can, Apple has invested more than $100 million building its advanced labs. Our engineers have logged thousands of hours designing and testing iPhone 4 in these state-of-the-art facilities.

It's thought that Apple has removed these videos in an attempt to put antennagate behind them.

Humble Gaming Limited independently releases An Art Of War 1.0 (previously sold as Attack and Destroy via a publisher) on the App Store ($1.99, included iPhone and iPad). A unique combination of turn based strategy, line drawing and top down shooter promises an explosive and thrilling experience for everyone.

A 3-person team, from a choice of 4 different specialists (namely, Strong Grunts, Eagle Eye Snipers, Fast Scouts, and Intelligent Engineers) is chosen for each battle.
